Privacy Policy

This is the privacy policy ("Privacy Policy") that governs the official websites for Waste Connections and its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively "Website"). Waste Connections and its affiliates and subsidiaries (collectively "WCI") are committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect about you, how we use and to whom we disclose that information.

This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and is subject to WCI’s Terms of Use. Your use of the Website and any personal information you provide on the Website remains subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use unless such personal information is related to an individual who seeks to be, is or was employed by WCI.

Privacy Policy Effective for Canada

It is WCI’s policy to comply with the privacy legislation within each jurisdiction in which we operate. Sometimes the privacy legislation and / or an individual's right to privacy are different from one jurisdiction to another. This Privacy Policy covers only those activities that are subject to the provisions of Canada's federal and provincial privacy laws, as applicable.

This Privacy Policy has a limited scope and application. Consequently, the rights and obligations contained in this Privacy Policy may not be available to all individuals or in all jurisdictions. If you are unsure if or how this Privacy Policy applies to you, please contact our Privacy Officer for more information.

What is Personal Information?

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, personal information is any information about an identifiable individual, other than the person's business title or business contact information when used or disclosed for the purpose of business communications.

Security

WCI uses commercially reasonable physical, managerial, and technical safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of your personal information. WCI cannot, however, ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to WCI and you do so at your own risk. Once WCI receives your transmission of information, it makes commercially reasonable efforts to secure our systems. However, please note that this is not a guarantee that such information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards.

If WCI learns of a security systems breach, then it may attempt to notify you electronically so that you can take appropriate protective steps. WCI may post a notice on the Website if a security breach occurs. Depending on where you live, you may have a legal right to receive notice of a security breach in writing. To receive a free written notice of a security breach (or to withdraw your consent from receiving electronic notice) you should notify WCI.

The security of your personal information is important to us. Please advise our Privacy Officer immediately of any incident involving the loss of, or unauthorized access to, or disclosure of personal information that is in our custody or control.

You may submit any questions you may have about our security procedures by emailing us at website@wcicustomer.com.

Information WCI Collects

You can visit the Website without disclosing any personal information about yourself. However, in order to utilize certain services of the Website, you will have to create a user account ("Account"). If you create an Account, WCI collects a variety of information such as your name and address, e-mail address, payment information, account preferences, and other information about you.

In addition, we collect the personal information that you submit to the Website, such as your name, address and any other contact or other information that you choose to provide by:

  • using the "contact us" portion of this Website;
  • using the “request a quote” portion of the Website;
  • joining WCI’s mailing list;
  • applying for a position with WCI or our affiliates through this Website;
  • by corresponding with a representative of WCI via e-mail using the hyperlinks created for that purpose.

When you visit the Website, WCI may send one or more cookies-a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters-to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser. WCI uses both session cookies and persistent cookies. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the Website. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser help file directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of the Website may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.

When you use the Website, WCI's servers automatically record certain information that your web browser sends whenever you visit any Website. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser type, browser language, referring / exit pages and URLs, platform type, number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed and the order of those pages, the amount of time spent on particular pages, the date and time of your request, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.

If you submit personal information to WCI through the Website, WCI may use your personal information to operate, maintain, and provide to you the features and functionality of the Website.

WCI does not use your email address or other personal information to send commercial or marketing messages without your consent or except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in or opt-out. You may opt out of receiving any, or all, of these communications by emailing us at website@wcicustomer.com or by clicking on the "unsubscribe" link in any email sent by WCI or by replying to any email sent by WCI and entering the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line. WCI may, however, use your email address without further consent for non-marketing or administrative purposes (such as notifying you of major Website changes or for customer service purposes).

WCI uses both your personal information and certain non-personally-identifiable information (such as anonymous user usage data, cookies, IP addresses, browser type, clickstream data, etc.) to improve the quality and design of the Website and to create new features, promotions, functionality, and services by storing, tracking, and analyzing user preferences and trends.

WCI uses cookies, and log file information to: (a) remember information so that you will not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you visit the Website; (b) provide custom, personalized content and information; (c) monitor the effectiveness of marketing campaigns; and (d) monitor aggregate metrics such as total number of visitors, pages viewed, etc.

When WCI Discloses Personal Informat

WCI provides personal information and non-personally-identifiable information to its subsidiaries, affiliated companies, or other businesses or persons for the purpose of processing such information on our behalf in Canada and the United States. WCI requires that these parties agree to process such information in compliance with its Privacy Policy, and WCI uses reasonable efforts to limit their use of such information and to use other appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

WCI does not share your personal information (such as name or email address) with other, third-party companies for their commercial or marketing use without your consent or except as part of a specific program or feature for which you will have the ability to opt-in or opt-out.

WCI may share non-personal information (such as anonymous user usage data, referring / exit pages and URLs, platform types, number of clicks, etc.) with interested third-parties to assist them in understanding the usage patterns for certain content, services, advertisements, promotions, and/or functionality on the Website.

WCI may release personal information and/or non-personally-identifiable information if required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with the law or respond to a court order, subpoena, or search warrant.

WCI also reserves the right to disclose personal information and/or non-personally-identifiable information that WCI believes, in good faith, is appropriate or necessary to enforce our Terms of Use, take precautions against liability, to investigate and defend itself against any third-party claims or allegations, to assist government enforcement agencies, to protect the security or integrity of its Website, and to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of WCI, our users or others.

Your Choices

You may, of course, decline to submit personal information through the Website, in which case, WCI may not be able to provide certain services to you. You may update or correct your personal information and email preferences at any time by visiting your update profile page. We may charge you a fee to access your personal information; however, we will advise you of any fee in advance. If you require assistance in preparing your request, please contact the office of our Privacy Officer.

There are instances where applicable law or regulatory requirements allow or require us to refuse to provide some or all of the personal information that we hold about you. In addition, the personal information may have been destroyed, erased or made anonymous in accordance with our record retention obligations and practices.

In the event that we cannot provide you with access to your personal information, we will endeavor to inform you of the reasons why, subject to any legal or regulatory restrictions.

You may change or withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual obligations and reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer using the contact information set out below.
